Mirror and Shadow: Medusa, Myth & Metaphor - A Lecture with Carrie Ann Baade

Join artist and author Carrie Ann Baade on Friday November 11, 2022 as we dissect the myths and associations of sacred ancient archetypes. As we transition through the lecture, we turn the mirror onto ourselves and society while focusing on how we can use art to express the repressed and hidden parts of ourselves.

Carrie Ann Baade takes a look into myth and associations with the sacred apotropaic symbol of medusa. Through the investigation of this ancient and cross cultural archetype, the artist unpacks the many meaning and narratives that result and inform her own paintings.

She will focus on how art can express the repressed parts of ourselves and our society.  Jung wrote eloquently and often on his notion of the shadow, a metaphor for all we cannot see about ourselves; Baade will give examples of how there are creative gifts in the shadow that only art can help bring to light.

This lecture is recorded and available for you to watch at your own pace.
